Every time we travel, we find that getting a locally owed and operated place to stay is not always the easiest, but it is always the most rewarding. So when we stumbled across a gem like Cove Point Lighthouse we couldn’t pass it up – I mean how often to you get to stay in a operating lighthouse?!
Located on the Chesapeake Bay in southern Maryland just minutes away from all the fun in Solomons, the lighthouse and the two and a half story keeper’s cottage sit at the end of a quiet neighborhood surrounded by a semi-private beach. You can choose to rent half of the cottage (like we did) or rent the whole thing. The half that we rented comes with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and WIFI.
The cottage is decorated throughout with a quaint coastal and maritime vibe. The decorating style fits perfect with a sunny days spent on the beach looking for sharks teeth and long nights spent with new friends on the front porch. The property is owned by the Calvert Marine Museum, which is a great place to spend the afternoon. The nice folks at the museum are a wonderful source of recommendations for where to eat and what to do while in the area. That’s the best part about staying local when you travel – the wealth of information that comes from those people you meet and the lasting friendships you make along the way.
